How to use Prezi for teaching English at High School

Povzetek

Članek želi predstaviti eno izmed možnosti uporabe orodja Prezi pri pouku angleščine v srednji šoli, kjer je lahko pomemben faktor pri doseganju motivacijskih in učnih ciljev. Motivacija je pri pouku angleščine zadnjih dvajset let ves čas igrala veliko vlogo, zlasti v uvodnem delu ure. Začetki so segali od motivacijskih sličic do kratkih iger, ki so pritegnile pozornost glavnih akterjev – učencev, kar članek predstavi tudi v teoretičnem delu. Sicer pa članek predstavi uporabo moderne tehnologije v mojem poučevanju, ki sega od uporabe Power Point-a, internetnih orodij z nalogami na spletu, uporabo informacij na spletnih straneh, kot je YouTube, do postavitve spletnih učilnic na spletni strani šole v Moodlu. Lanska konferenca SiRikt je že v pripravah na predstavitve interaktivnih plakatov, kjer sem sodelovala, prikazala novo odprtokodno orodje Prezi, ki se mi je zdelo idealno uporabno za moj način poučevanja in dovolj zanimivo za intenzivno uporabo pri pouku angleščine. Zaradi razgibanosti predstavitve, ki jo program nudi, ga uporabljam v vseh fazah pouka, predvsem pa pri uvodni motivaciji in predstavitvi snovi, še zlasti pri pouku književnosti, kjer lahko uporabim tudi posnetke, objavljene na YouTubu. Prezi motivira tudi dijake za njihove lastne predstavitve pri govornih nastopih.

Abstract

The article wants to present one of the posibilities to use the tool Prezi at English at high school lessons where it can be an important factor when reaching motivational and learning goals. Motivation has played a big role with teaching English for the last twenty years, especially in the first motivational minutes of a lesson. The beginnings started with motivational pictures and short games that attracted the attention of the main agents – students what the article presents in the theoretical part. The article presents also the beginnings of modern technology usage in my teaching from Power Point projections, using of the internet tools with exercises on the web, using of information at the web sites, such as YouTube, to web classrooms at the school's web site in Moodle. When we were preparing for our presentations with interactive posters for the last year's conference SiRikt, we tried to use the new open code tool Prezi which seemed ideal form for my way of teaching and interesting enough for intensive usage at teaching English. Prezi has varied presentation options, which can be used at all stages of lessons, especially with introduction motivation and presentation of a lesson. It is especially useful when teaching literature where I can use short videos, clips or movie extracts from YouTube. Prezi also motivates the students to present their own presentation for oral presentations.
