Abstract
This paper examines the development of listening skills in foreign language teaching with the aid of modern technology from the year 1983 to the present. The analysis of the survey data confirmed our hypothesis about the role of modern technology which certainly encourages the development of listening skills, influences the level of the language proficiency and raises motivation for language learning. The pupils who were surveyed stressed mostly the motivational effect of ICT, while teachers highlighted that the use of ICT should be meaningful and has to make sense. In the past, integration of technology into foreign language teaching coincided with the emergence of communicative approach that strongly changed the paradigm of teaching and learning foreign languages. The use of technology allows access to more authentic materials, enables teaching in context and through communication and gives meaning to foreign language learning. Numerous tools provide quick access to desired content and enable better communication with native speakers.
