Internet2: več kot le nadaljevanje
Internet2: not just a sequel
Heather Boyles, Internet2
Aktivno sodeluje z večino svetovnih nacionalnih raziskovalnih in izobraževalnih omrežij (NREN), tudi Arnesom, kar uporabnikom omogoča sodelovanje s sorodnimi organizacijami širom sveta.
Abstract Internet2 is the 10+ year old organization and network interconnecting universities, schools, research centers, health care clinics and other educational and public institutions within the United States. As with ARNES in Slovenia, Internet2 has partnerships with other National Research and Education Networking (NREN) organizations throughout the world, providing users of Internet2, ARNES and other NRENs with opportunities to collaborate with counterparts worldwide.
This talk will explore the motivations for dedicated research and education networks (in contrast to the commercial Internet) and how they support the research, teaching, learning, clinical and outreach missions of the institutions they serve. Multimedia examples will be presented showing how various communities - from the musical performing arts to medical education to primary schools - are using Internet2's capabilities. An overview of these capabilities - which include not only the network infrastructure, but new 'lightpath' network services as well as federated identity management tools and other collaboration infrastructure and services - will be given.
