Abstract

The ESP Conference is an international conference with a 23-year tradition and diverse international participation. Participants are teachers from Europe and the surrounding areas. The ESP project and the ESP Conference were launched with the aim of connecting schools, teachers and pupils. Initially the project only connected a few countries from northern Europe, before later expanding. The ESP conference is a working conference. It serves mainly to connect teachers and launch new projects; even presentations of successful projects serve mainly to encourage the establishment of new projects. Conference delegates are more or less exclusively active teachers who want to participate in new international projects.
SIRIKT, in contrast, is more locally oriented, but covers a wider area. It serves as a point where teachers present examples of good practice in the use of ICT in their daily work. It also serves as a venue where experts present innovations that are interesting for wider audiences. The conference also helps to bring together people from different areas with similar interests. Participants include teachers and researchers, computer scientists and those who only see the computer as a tool.
However, despite their differences, both conferences have much in common. They serve as meeting places for a group of people with common goals – to learn, to cooperate and to continually improve their performance.
