Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present the use of computers in separate stages of the teaching/learning process in Geography lessons in primary school. ICT enables geography teachers to present all the faraway countries as well as the phenomena and processes which cannot be directly observed. ICT enables the realisation of common teaching/learning principles which stem from the goals of Geography, among which indirect observation is one of the fundamental goals. Pupils are motivated already at the beginning of the lesson because they know that they are going to use computers for learning.
ICT enables better realisation of the principles of clearness and systematics. To achieve them, multimedia can be used in two separate systems: the monomedia and integral multimedia system. This paper brings an example of good practice in a lesson where despite the teacher's frontal approach much higher pupils' activity can be attained by the use of electronic transparencies and simultaneous use of other web pages. Revising with the use of a computer is no longer only reproductive but productive as well because a pupil can be directed to independent search for information on the selected web pages. Checking is in the function of learning. After the lesson, pupils get information on the success of their learning and the teacher gets information on the success of teaching. The inlcusion of ICT in Geography lessons will become a constituent part of the teaching/learning process in the future where the teacher still plays an important role of an organizer or a director of the teaching/learning process. However, this process is not supposed to end when the lesson is over. The communication between the pupil and teacher should go on after school with the help of ICT.
